Overview

The New Development Bank (NDB) is a multilateral development bank established by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) via a treaty signed in 2014 (in force 2015), HQ Shanghai. It supports public and private infrastructure and sustainable-development projects across member and other emerging/developing countries through loans, guarantees, equity participation, and other financial instruments -- it raises its own capital and issues bonds rather than raising closed-end funds from limited partners. Authorized capital is US$100 billion; subscribed capital is US$50 billion (US$10B paid-in, US$40B callable). President: Dilma Rousseff (since March 2023, reelected March 2025).
