Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, established September 1977 by Dr. Arnold O. Beckman (founder of Beckman Instruments/Beckman Coulter) and his wife Mabel, supports leading-edge chemistry and life-sciences research. Originally intended to disburse its full endowment within the Beckmans' lifetimes, converted to a perpetual foundation in 1990 to keep funding young researchers on high-risk, innovative projects; has provided $700M+ in grants to date.
