Overview

Capital Maritime & Trading Corp, founded 2005 by Evangelos Marinakis, is the shipping cornerstone of the Marinakis family's Capital Group, which now controls 151 vessels (~12.5M dwt) across tanker, container, LNG, LPG/ammonia, LCO2, offshore, and dry-bulk segments. Investment decisions are opportunistic, favoring large enough footprints in target segments for flexibility, with a history of speculative newbuild orders later matched to charters. The family has diversified well beyond shipping into sports, media, entertainment, consumer services, energy, real estate, and (since 2022) e-commerce; a 2019 restructuring moved Capital Maritime's general-partner interests to a vehicle owned by Evangelos's son, Miltiadis E. Marinakis.
