Carnegie Corporation of New York, established 1911 by Andrew Carnegie as the last philanthropic institution he founded, was endowed in perpetuity with $135M of his remaining fortune to promote the 'advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding,' focused on education, democracy, and peace. The endowment has grown to over $5bn, with a current annual grantmaking budget of roughly $220M. Renamed the Andrew Carnegie Foundation in 2026.
