Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, established 1904 by Andrew Carnegie with $5M of his own money (via a formal deed of trust) following the 1904 Harwick, Pennsylvania mine disaster, recognizes acts of civilian heroism in the US and Canada and provides financial assistance to heroes disabled in the act, or to the dependents of those killed helping others.
