Folketrygdfondet
Oslo, Norway
Overview
Norwegian state-owned asset manager (established 1967, current structure formalized 2007) managing the Government Pension Fund Norway (GPFN) under a Ministry of Finance mandate. Distinct from Norges Bank Investment Management / Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG): Folketrygdfondet invests only domestically and in the Nordics (~85% Norway, 15% Nordic, capped at 15% ownership per company) using national-insurance-funded capital, not petroleum revenue -- an entirely separate manager, capital source and investment universe from the much larger GPFG. A major institutional shareholder on the Oslo Stock Exchange. AUM reported at NOK 330 billion (~USD 31.4 billion) at 31 December 2024.
