Overview

Sovereign wealth fund established in 2003 (following 2001 legislation) to partially pre-fund the future cost of New Zealand Superannuation as the population ages. Managed by the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, an Auckland-based Crown entity. Growth-oriented, long-horizon investor with ESG integrated into its approach; the Crown is expected to begin drawing on the fund from around 2035/36. Fund value was NZD 94.0 billion as of 31 May 2026.
