Overview

SHV Holdings, founded April 1, 1896 in Utrecht as the Steenkolen Handels-Vereeniging ('Coal Trading Association') by the Fentener van Vlissingen family alongside eight other Dutch trading families, established its own investment vehicle, Unitas, to fund new ventures. Paul Fentener van Vlissingen led a diversification drive from the late 1960s after the coal industry's collapse, transforming SHV into a diversified global group spanning energy distribution (SHV Energy), heavy lifting/engineered transport (Mammoet), and animal nutrition (Nutreco) -- remaining privately held by the Fentener van Vlissingen family.
