The Joachim Herz Stiftung

Hamburg, GM

Overview

Joachim Herz Foundation, founded 2008 in Hamburg following the death of entrepreneur Joachim Herz (assets ~EUR1.3bn at the time, with wife Petra Herz's support), is one of Germany's largest non-profit foundations. Capital is invested predominantly in entrepreneurial activities per the founder's wishes -- primarily an indirect stake in Beiersdorf AG -- supplemented by a real estate portfolio (US and Germany) and a diversified securities book, with a strategy of preserving real asset value while generating regular income to fund education, science, and research (natural sciences, economics, law, medicine).
