Overview

Thenamaris, founded 1971-72 in Athens, was built by Athina Martinou (née Methenitis) alongside her sons Thanasis, Dinos, and Andreas, growing from a single bulk carrier ('Thanasis', ~10,000 tons, mid-1960s) to a 36-ship fleet by 1975. Today one of the world's leading shipping companies, operating a modern fleet of 95+ vessels (tankers, bulk carriers, LNG carriers, container ships) with a strategy blending disciplined fleet renewal, technical-management excellence, and opportunistic asset cycling across market conditions. Athina Martinou, a pioneer of modern Greek shipping, passed away in October 2024 at age 97.
